What to Expect During Mold Treatment Services in Islandia, NY
Mold is a fungus, and while in nature it’s beneficial, as it aids in decomposition, when it grows indoors, it can be quite problematic. Mold feeds on the surfaces that it grows on, and can leave serious damage in its wake, and it releases spores into the air, which can cause adverse health effects.
In order to mitigate the dangers that mold can cause, contacting a Islandia, NY mold removal company as soon as you suspect it’s growing in your Suffolk County home is imperative. But if you’ve never had mold treatment services before, you may be wondering what to expect.
To help you prepare, the following is an overview of what mold treatment entails.
Mold is a potentially hazardous material, so to protect your Suffolk County home – and themselves – a Islandia, NY mold removal company will make the necessary preparations. The technicians will suit up in protective gear, and they’ll don goggles and respirators. To isolate and minimize the risk of cross-contamination, they’ll erect containment around and will run hoses through the affected area.
Removal and Disposal of Items
Once the technicians and your Suffolk County home is protected, professionals at a Islandia, NY mold removal company will begin removing and disposing of items. Typically, this includes porous items that have been affected by mold growth, such as plaster, drywall, carpeting, rugs, and other upholstered items.
Another crucial part of the mold treatment process is the bagging of items. Anything that has been removed from your Suffolk County home will be placed in thick, air-tight bags that are made of thick, durable plastic. To remove any mold, the technicians will wipe down the bags.
Next, the Islandia, NY mold removal technicians will spray the affected area with a substance known as biocide. A liquid that kills mold, biocide is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). After the substance has been sprayed, the technicians will depart, leaving the biocide to kill the mold spores in your Suffolk County home, and to dry.
The amount of time it will take for the substances to work varies and depends on several factors, such as the extent of the damage, the materials that have been affected, and the amount of biocide that was applied.
Once the biocide has fully dried, the mold treatment technicians will spray the affected area with a special kind of paint, which will encapsulate, or cover, any remaining mold spores. To prevent future mold growth, a reputable Islandia, NY mold removal company will spray the paint far beyond the affected area; for instance, if mold is growing in just part of your crawl space, it’s likely that the entire space will be sprayed down.
Following encapsulation, the technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your Suffolk County property. During this phase of the mold treatment process, the crew will check to see if their work or if any additional treatment is needed. If there is no more visible mold and if the odor of mold is no longer present in the affected area, the treatment will likely be deemed complete; if, however, mold is detected, further steps will need to be taken.

Islandia is an incorporated village in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 3,335 at the 2010 census.
Islandia straddles the Long Island Expressway and is near the geographic center of Long Island. It has no central business district, although it is home to the Islandia Center, which has a Walmart and Dave & Buster’s.
Islandia incorporated itself as a village in April 1985 after CA Technologies established its world headquarters in Hauppauge and trying to capture the Hauppauge School District, in the area some people informally referred to as South Hauppauge. After more than 3 years of conducting local research, residents appeared in front of Islip’s officials to take the first steps in incorporating Islandia on September 16, 1980. At the meeting, locals presented the Town of Islip was a petition signed by 432 Islandia Residents, which was over the 180 minimum required, and also presented the $1,000 (1980 USD) filing fee required. Many officials in the Town of Islip, including Town Supervisor Michael LoGrande, were less than thrilled with the proposal, and Islip soon sued the organizers of the prospective village in an attempt to prevent Islandia’s incorporation. It wasn’t until December 1984 that the Town of Islip dropped their opposition and asked residents in return for at least 200 residents to sign a letter to promise that the community would not exclude minorities from living within its borders. An incorporation vote was soon held, during which residents ultimately voted in favor of incorporating, and in April 1985, Islandia officially became an incorporated village.
When it incorporated, Islandia became the first new village on Long Island to incorporate in over 15 years (the last village incorporated prior to Islandia was Lake Grove in 1968).
