What to Expect During Mold Treatment Services in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Mold is a fungus, and while in nature it’s beneficial, as it aids in decomposition, when it grows indoors, it can be quite problematic. Mold feeds on the surfaces that it grows on, and can leave serious damage in its wake, and it releases spores into the air, which can cause adverse health effects.

In order to mitigate the dangers that mold can cause, contacting a Lake Ronkonkoma, NY mold removal company as soon as you suspect it’s growing in your Suffolk County home is imperative. But if you’ve never had mold treatment services before, you may be wondering what to expect.

To help you prepare, the following is an overview of what mold treatment entails.

Preparations

Mold is a potentially hazardous material, so to protect your Suffolk County home – and themselves – a Lake Ronkonkoma, NY mold removal company will make the necessary preparations. The technicians will suit up in protective gear, and they’ll don goggles and respirators. To isolate and minimize the risk of cross-contamination, they’ll erect containment around and will run hoses through the affected area.

Removal and Disposal of Items

Once the technicians and your Suffolk County home is protected, professionals at a Lake Ronkonkoma, NY mold removal company will begin removing and disposing of items. Typically, this includes porous items that have been affected by mold growth, such as plaster, drywall, carpeting, rugs, and other upholstered items.

Bagging

Another crucial part of the mold treatment process is the bagging of items. Anything that has been removed from your Suffolk County home will be placed in thick, air-tight bags that are made of thick, durable plastic. To remove any mold, the technicians will wipe down the bags.

Spraying

Next, the Lake Ronkonkoma, NY mold removal technicians will spray the affected area with a substance known as biocide. A liquid that kills mold, biocide is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). After the substance has been sprayed, the technicians will depart, leaving the biocide to kill the mold spores in your Suffolk County home, and to dry.

The amount of time it will take for the substances to work varies and depends on several factors, such as the extent of the damage, the materials that have been affected, and the amount of biocide that was applied.

Encapsulation

Once the biocide has fully dried, the mold treatment technicians will spray the affected area with a special kind of paint, which will encapsulate, or cover, any remaining mold spores. To prevent future mold growth, a reputable Lake Ronkonkoma, NY mold removal company will spray the paint far beyond the affected area; for instance, if mold is growing in just part of your crawl space, it’s likely that the entire space will be sprayed down.

Inspection

Heating And Cooling Companies in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Following encapsulation, the technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your Suffolk County property. During this phase of the mold treatment process, the crew will check to see if their work or if any additional treatment is needed. If there is no more visible mold and if the odor of mold is no longer present in the affected area, the treatment will likely be deemed complete; if, however, mold is detected, further steps will need to be taken.

Some information about Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Lake Ronkonkoma is a census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 20,155 at the 2010 census.

The actual lake, Lake Ronkonkoma, adjacent to the CDP, is the largest lake on Long Island. The land surrounding one side of the lake is in the jurisdiction of Islip. The elevation of the lake surface is given as 55 feet (17 m) on the most recent USGS map, but as the lake is a ‘groundwater lake’, not fed by streams, it has no surface outlet and its water surface reflects the current level of the local water table. This can undergo significant changes over time, and the lake level experiences slow periods of rise and fall. In the late 1960s it was quite low; after several intermediate changes in level, in 2007 the lake was higher than at any time since, with a difference of well over 5 feet (1.5 m) between the 1960s low and the 2007 high.

As a result of the lake’s existence, Lake Ronkonkoma was once a resort town, until the area experienced a population explosion in the mid-20th century. Remnants of old resorts and hotels can still be seen around the lake’s shores. Many summer cottages and bungalows from that period remain, now converted to year-round use.

The lake is the subject of a number of urban legends, mainly rooted in the area’s rich Native American heritage. For example: 1. ‘It’s bottomless’ (and/or empties into Long Island Sound or other waterways). In fact, the lake is relatively deep (approx. 65 feet (20 m)) at its southeastern side, and is what’s known as a kettle hole lake. 2. ‘Every year the lake sacrifices someone.’ Or more specifically, Princess Ronkonkoma ‘The Lady of the Lake’ calls young men out to the middle of the lake and drowns them. In all versions, the lady is an Indian princess who herself drowned in the lake, for reasons that vary depending on the story. The most popular version is that every year the lake claims one male victim. Articles suggest that in the past 200 years, only a handful of females have drowned in Lake Ronkonkoma. 3. ‘There is a mysterious rise and fall of the lake that doesn’t have any noticeable relationship to local rainfall totals.’ This has not been sufficiently explained either way.
