When to Contact a Harbor Hills, NY Company that Offers Water Damage Restoration Near You

Let’s be honest: hiring a Harbor Hills, NY water damage restoration professional is kind of a big deal. Firstly, it can be pricy. While your homeowner’s insurance policy may cover some of the expenses, you may be responsible for out-of-pocket expenses, as well as increased premiums on your insurance coverage. Secondly, having a water damage restoration team work on your Nassau County property can be time-consuming and disruptive to you and your family.

It’s for the above reasons that you may decide that, rather than hiring a Harbor Hills, NY water damage restoration company, you’re going to handle the problem yourself. While in some cases, the DIY approach may be acceptable, in others, trying to handle the water damage restoration process on your own can lead to disastrous results, as you may not be able to do an efficient job, and you may overlook underlying problems, such as mold growth and structural damage, which could result in even more damage that will require costlier repairs. Here’s a look at a few times when hiring a professional that specializes in water damage restoration near you is strongly recommended.

Gray or Black Water Damage

Heating And Cooling Companies in Harbor Hills, NY

There are a total of three categories of water damage:

1. Fresh water damage. This is water damage that is caused by portable water sources that are generally considered safe for human consumption and is unlikely to be contaminated; a leaky hot water heater or a small pipe burst, for example.

2. Gray water damage. The second category of water damage comes from sources of water that are likely to be contaminated; the water could come from outdoor sources, such as clogged gutters.

3. Black water. The level of damage comes from sources that are most certainly contaminated, and as such, the water can contain toxic materials that could be harmful to your health; a sewage overflow or standing water from a stream, for instance.

While clean water does require complete extraction and drying to prevent microbial issues, such as mold growth, technically, you could handle it on your own. Gray and black water damage, on the other hand, definitely warrants a call to a company that specializes in water damage restoration near you, as decontamination and disinfection are necessary to ensure the safety of your Nassau County home.

Extensive Flooding

You might be able to handle a small amount of water intrusion yourself; however, if you’ve experienced extensive damage – even if it’s fresh water – calling in a Harbor Hills, NY water damage restoration professional is highly recommended.

Whether it’s a dripping faucet, a pipe burst, a broken water heater, a leak in the roof – or even if you don’t know the source of the intrusion – if you’re dealing with a major event, contacting a company that specializes in water damage restoration near you is your best bet.

Worsening Damage

Let’s say there’s a water spot on your ceiling. At first, it might not seem like a big deal; however, if it continues to expand, you should definitely contact a Harbor Hills, NY water damage restoration service to have it inspected. An experienced professional will pinpoint the source of the damage and will make the necessary repairs, thereby preventing bigger problems that require more exorbitant repairs in the future.

Some information about Harbor Hills, NY

Harbor Hills is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located on the Great Neck Peninsula within the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 575 at the 2010 census.

In 1956, the Town of North Hempstead approved the construction of the community’s swimming pool and its bathhouses, and approved of the creation of the Harbor Hills Park District, which was created specifically for the community’s new park complex project. The contract was awarded to Great Neck-based Schumacher & Forelle, which bid $169,500 (1956 USD) for the pool’s construction, and promised to do the work in 110 days. The project was paid for by the hamlet’s roughly 175 residents.

The community’s pool would be reconstructed between 1986 and 1989, and again was paid for by the hamlet’s residents. This controversial project led to a lawsuit filed by residents over the payments and unexpected rises in taxes, which the Harbor Hills Civic Association charged were due to North Hempstead overpaying, expanding the project, and failing to properly communicate with or notify the locals.

The Harbor Hills CDP was first created for the 2000 United States Census.
