Key Questions to Ask Before You Hire a Melville, NY Water Damage Service
When water damage strikes, finding a restoration company that you can rely on to clean up the damage and restore the safety of your Suffolk County property can be an overwhelming task, especially right after the incident occurs. You don’t want to take a risk and hire just any company; you want to make sure that you hire a reputable and experienced Melville, NY water damage restoration professional.
To avoid the risk of hiring an unreliable or inexperienced water damage service, taking the time to research before disaster strikes is highly recommended. By doing so, when an issue does occur, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that you’ll have a dependable Melville, NY water damage restoration contractor that you can call.
To help you on your quest for finding the most reliable water damage service, here’s a look at some key questions to ask prospective companies. The answers to these questions will help you decide who to hire.
Are you licensed?
In order to provide water damage services in Suffolk County, contractors have to be licensed; plus, a licensed confirms that a contractor has received the professional training that’s necessary to deliver safe and effective results. However, just because a Melville, NY water damage restoration professional is supposed to be licensed, that doesn’t mean they all are.
Make sure you ask each company you speak with if they’re licensed. Ask to see a copy of their license, and take the time to confirm that it’s valid and in good standing.
Are you insured?
As you can probably imagine, water damage mitigation is a complex process, and there’s a real risk for issues to occur; for example, a contractor could damage your Suffolk County home or business, or they could sustain an injury while they’re working on your property. As long as the company is insured, they’ll cover the cost of any related issues that may arise; if you hire someone that isn’t insured, however, you could end up having to foot the bill.
Be sure you ask the Melville, NY water damage restoration companies that you’re considering if they’re insured. Ask to see proof of their policies, and contact their carrier to make sure that the coverage is active.
What type of experience do you have?
You’ll also want to inquire about the kind of experience prospective water damage service providers have. Sure, a new company that’s just starting out could provide reliable results, but when it comes to something that’s as important as water damage mitigation, you really don’t want to take any chances.
Ask each of the Melville, NY water damage restoration companies that you’re considering about their experience, including what kinds of properties they’ve worked on, and how long they’ve been in business. Ideally, you should hire a well-established water damage service that’s been serving the Suffolk County community for several years, that has serviced a wide variety of both commercial and residential properties, and that has handled various types of damage.

Melville is an affluent hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County on Long Island, New York, in the United States. The population was 18,985 at the 2010 census.
The area was known to the Native Americans as Sunsquams. In the 17th century it was known as Samuel Ketcham’s Valley, named for a local resident. Afterwards it was known as Sweet Hollow. This name was replaced by Melville in school records in 1854. There is some debate as to the origin of the Melville name. It may be derived from the Latin for honey (the area had an abundance of honey bees, and this may have also been the origin of the previous Sweet Hollow name). The author Herman Melville was being published around this time.
A Presbyterian church was built in Melville in 1829 at the corner of Old Country and Sweet Hollow Roads. In 1977 the church was moved 1 mile (1.6 km) to the west. The church was in continuous use until 1930. It reopened in 1944 for the funeral of Edward Baylis and has been in use since then.
In 1909 a trolley line to Huntington was established. This was an extension of the Huntington Trolley Spur and went as far south as Amityville and had a connection to Babylon. There were six fare zones, one of which was the Duryea Farm at Melville. The line was shut down a decade later after farmers complained that noise from the trolley frightened their animals. Buses provided transportation after the trolley line closed. The growing use of private cars also reduced demand for the trolley line.
